NBA trade rumors: Toronto Raptors trade with Memphis Grizzlies close?

NBA trade rumors have a Toronto Raptors trade getting worked out with the Memphis Grizzlies. According to a report from ESPN on Monday night (Jan. 28), the two sides are engaged in active trade discussions that could include several players switching teams.

This could turn into a massive trade, with the potential of Rudy Gay going to the Raptors in exchange for Jose Calderon and Ed Davis. The Grizzlies might have to include Darrell Arthur in any deal, but players like Kyle Lowry and Andrea Bargnani could also come into the mix. The pieces are very fluid at this point, but it is very clear that Toronto is ready to make a big move.

It's very interesting that Toronto is pushing so hard to acquire Rudy Gay, but they probably feel that there could be a strong push for the postseason awaiting them. With the Rajon Rondo ACL injury that the Boston Celtics are suffering through, it could leave the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference Playoffs wide open. Maybe that is exactly what the Raptors need to create some buzz.

As for why Memphis would do this deal, it would get them far under the salary cap for next season, even if it costs them a bit of talent in the current season. These NBA trade rumors are still developing, but don't be surprised if a Toronto Raptors trade does in fact go down in the next week.
