NBA trade rumors: Orlando Magic trade of J.J. Redick seeks draft picks

New NBA trade rumors about a potential Orlando Magic trade of J.J. Redick includes what the team is looking for in return. According to a report from Saturday (Jan. 26), Orlando wants "draft picks and a young player on a rookie contract in exchange for the veteran two-guard."

The type of deal makes perfect sense for the Magic, but it's unclear if another team is going to offer up assets like that for Redick. It is certainly clear that he could offer a lot to a contending team that needs a shooting guard, but this is the final year of his contract. That means he becomes a free agent at the end of the regular season, limiting the out-put a team might get from him.

Redick is playing very well for the Magic lately and has raised his averages to 31.4 minutes, 14.9 points, and 4.4 assists per game. As his minutes have increased with his addition to the starting lineup, his numbers have been getting better as well. He is starting to look like a player that could easily average 18 points a game if given the opportunity.

An Orlando Magic trade like this is probably going to come due to how far the team is out of contention for a playoff spot this year. Though NBA trade rumors indicate that they want a big package of components in a J.J. Redick trade, if the market isn't there, they could accept a lesser deal just to make sure they don't lose him to free agency for nothing. If he does get traded, his fantasy basketball value will depend on where he ends up playing next.
