The Memphis Grizzlies have been bleeding cash for the massive contract of 26-year-old star Rudy Gay. According to reports from Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports on Jan. 15, 2013, the Grizzlies are pursuing options to offload the player to a number of different teams.
Memphis are scheduled to be committed to massive contractual payouts to the player in the following two seasons. Next season (2013-14) Gay would receive $17.8 million and in the following season (2014-15) he would make even more at $19.3 million.
Wojnarowski claims that in an effort for the club to avoid having to pay the luxury taxes on the player in the next two seasons they are aggressively trying to find a team that will take the player off their hands.
So far this season Gay has shot a career low 41% from the floor and his exit would not likely cause to negative of an effect on the team. Despite his decent production this season, the massive amount of salary cap room that his trade could clear up is substantial and worth the effort to send him packing.
