News broke this morning that the Memphis Grizzlies and the Cleveland Cavaliers have reached the advanced stages of trade discussions on Jan. 22, 2013, involving a three player deal.
According to ESPN NBA expert Brian Windhorst, the Grizzlies would be sending front man Marreese Speights and guard Josh Selby to the Cavaliers for the services of big man Jon Leuer.
Speights is averaging 6.6 points per game and 4.7 rebounds per game on an average of 16.7 minutes per game while Selby is just an added bonus with limited stats this season. There are also likely to draft picks involved going either direction.
The Grizzlies get a solid young prospect with Leuer and he will be expected to step up and grow into the team to replace the current production that will be lost without Speights.
The true efforts behind the move are to make sure that the Grizzlies can hold onto Rudy Gay and avoid the impending massive luxury taxes associated with their steep payroll, this deal would see $4 million shaved off and get them back down under the luxury limits.
