Another NBA game for the Lakers and another loss as the Los Angeles team fell to the Chicago Bulls on Jan. 21, 2013. The loss is their third straight and their ninth in eleven games as their mid-season record now stands at a dismal 17-24.
After the acquisition of Dwight Howard and Steve Nash this summer is looked like the Lakers were primed for another run at the NBA title. Now they will be lucky to make the playoffs and at the poor level they have been performing that is even not to likely.
Howard continues to be linked with a trade away from the Lakers and at the rate the club is spiraling out of control and the continued poor performances from the highly talented big man is putting in it could be a good thing for the team to cut their loses. Even Lakers Hall of Fame inductee Magic Johnson has called for Howard to go.
The whole point of the trade was to bring Howard into a winning situation to ensure that when he became an unrestricted free agent in the summer he would be most likely to re-sign with the Lakers However, what star player would want to stay in LA for next season with the way it is all going this year.
That very mindset is the biggest factor that is likely to see Howard up on the trading block before the trade deadline. Trade rumor talk involving Howard going to the Atlanta Hawks for Josh Smith or the Memphis Grizzlies for Rudy Gay have already surfaced and there are likely to be even more discussions before the end of the month.
