NBA trade rumors 2014 news has included Greg Monroe of the Detroit Pistons recently. Monroe recently addressed those 2014 NBA trade rumors, admitting that it has started to weigh on him. According to a report from NBC on Sunday (Jan. 26), the young center could be the odd man out due to his contract status with the team.
The Pistons are not playing well this season and have lost 12 of their last 16 games. When Monroe is on the court with Josh Smith and Andre Drummond, the ball seems to slow down quite a bit on offense. The combination of players simply hasn't worked and the team might have to do something soon to become competitive again.
In 43 games this season, Monroe is averaging just 14.2 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 0.4 blocks per game. He just isn't putting up the numbers that the team had been hoping to see from him and with his looming free agency, it may become necessary for the franchise to look in a different direction. That doesn't mean he doesn't have a lot of value on the open market, especially for a team that just needs a big man in the middle.
More 2014 NBA trade rumors are likely to include the Detroit Pistons as the deadline approaches in February. The team has a lot of talent and is only half a game from the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. An important decision about Greg Monroe is looming, as the team has to decide if he is the long-term answer or if Andre Drummond can be the full-time starting center. As a restricted free agent the team has a lot of control over re-signing him, but they could just as easily seek out a shooting guard in a trade soon.
If Monroe goes to a team in need of a starting center, his fantasy basketball value could go through the roof. At that point he could become an automatic double-double every night.
