2013 NBA trade rumors now have the Portland Trail Blazers interested in center Nikola Pekovic. According to a report from Monday morning (Feb. 4), the Trail Blazers have been rumored to have interest in the third-year center for a long time. He could fit very nicely in the starting rotation next to LaMarcus Aldridge and would certainly be able to play big minutes for the team.
The reason that this is coming up is because the Blazers aren't sure what to do about J.J. Hickson. He has performed very well at center for the team this season, but he will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. It hasn't stopped him from putting up some very nice numbers, though, and heading into Monday's games he is averaging 16.5 points and 10.3 rebounds over his last 10 games. That raises is averages on the season to 13 points and 10.8 rebounds a night.
Fantasy basketball owners who picked up Hickson at the end of drafts this year are seeing a lot of benefits from him, but the Blazers still aren't quite sure if he has the size that they are looking for at center. He would be the perfect power forward for a lot of NBA teams, but the Blazers already have Aldridge in that position for at least a few more years.
With the Feb. 21 trade deadline approaching, it will be interesting to see if anything develops with these new 2013 NBA trade rumors. The Minnesota Timberwolves have to decide if they are going to offer Nikola Pekovic enough money in free agency to retain him, or if trading him to a team like the Portland Trail Blazers would be the better course of action. If Pekovic did replace Hickson, the value of both players might go up in fantasy basketball.
