New 2013 NBA trade rumors suggest a Minnesota Timberwolves trade for a big man could be coming soon. The disappointment that the team has had in Derrick Williams is continuing and according to a report from Friday (Jan. 18), Wolves president David Kahn is looking to make a deal.
Fantasy basketball owners might want to keep an eye on Williams if he gets sent to a team that can use his skill set. He hasn't been able to find a good flow with Minnesota, but that doesn't mean he won't have success on the right roster. Put him on the same team as an elite point guard and he could potentially see a big increase in his skills.
The reason Williams is being brought up is because he is one of the main players that the Wolves have been shopping. It's possible that they could work up a deal that sends Williams and center Nikola Pekovic in the same deal. One idea would be to become part of a three-team trade that would net the Wolves Rudy Gay. The front office likely wouldn't want to pay for both Gay and Pekovic, outlining how the deal would have to go down.
At this point, with all of the 2013 NBA trade rumors surrounding the Minnesota Timberwolves, a trade not happening would be more surprising than one taking place. Expect something to get done before the All-Star break, especially because the team wants to be in playoff contention when Kevin Love is finally healthy in late March.
Fantasy basketball owners will also want to pay attention to where Nikola Pekovic ends up, because if he goes to a contender and starts coming off the bench, his value will dip quite a bit. Likewise, if Rudy Gay comes to Minnesota, his fantasy value is going to go up because he would become the featured player.
