The two teams are set to meet on Wednesday night in Charlotte. In addition, the defending champions, the Miami Heat, struggled once again on the road.
According to ESPN.com on Jan. 20, the Clippers defeated the Detroit Pistons during the day's games by a final of 112-103. DeAndre Jordan registed an impressive double-double performance of 16 points and 21 rebounds, adding 4 blocks on the defensive end. His teammate Blake Griffin added 25 points and 5 rebounds, along with 5 assists. Several other players including Darren Collison and J.J. Reddick were able to pick up the slack with Chris Paul sidelined due to injury. Reddick and Collison put in a combined 24 points and 12 assists in place of CP3. The Clippers out-rebounded Detroit 44 to 30 in the game, and were part of an array of dunks highlighted by ESPN.
In Charlotte, the Bobcats are without Kemba Walker for probably 10 to 14 days due to a recent ankle sprain. They still were able to grind out a victory over Toronto today, thanks to their most recent acquisition, Al Jefferson. Jefferson, who came to the Bobcats in the offseason, 22 points, 19 rebounds and 7 assists. Point guard Ramon Sessions contributed 23 points, while Gerald Henderson had 16 points, 5 assists and four rebounds in the 100 to 95 victory. The Bobcats shot 49% for the game compared to Toronto's 41%. In addition, the Raptors had 24 fouls over the course of the game, helping to give the Bobcats 33 free throw attempts.
In other action, the two New York squads met up, with the Brooklyn Nets besting the Knicks 103 to 80 at Madison Square Garden. Joe Johnson led the Nets with 25 points and 6 rebounds, while Carmelo Anthony recorded 26 points and 12 rebounds in a losing effort. The Dallas Mavs were able to defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 102-97 behind 22 points and 8 assists from Monta Ellis, while the Miami Heat fell to the Atlanta Hawks 121-114. Paul Millsap had 26 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the home team winners, while LeBron James had 30 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists in the loss.
