NBA rumors 2014 news has the LA Clippers and Miami Heat going after Andrew Bynum. These new 2014 NBA rumors come from Wednesday (Jan. 8), with the former All-Star center less than 24 hours from clearing waivers. According to the report from ESPN, eight teams have already contacted his agent about acquiring the big man for the rest of the current season.
After getting released by the Chicago Bulls, Bynum will become available to every other team in the league. It gives the troubled center a chance to sign with the team of his choice and there are quite a few suitors. The names of the eight teams that have contacted his agent have not all been revealed, but teams that have been ruled out include the Atlanta Hawks and Brooklyn Nets.
During his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season, Andrew Bynum averaged 8.4 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.17 blocks per game in limited action. He wasn't in the plans for the team moving forward, though, so they traded him to the Bulls for Luol Deng. The Bulls then released him to save money due to his contract not being guaranteed.
There are likely to be quite a few new 2014 NBA rumors in the next 24 hours as Bynum gets closer to being available. The LA Clippers can only offer the veteran's minimum to acquire him, meaning the Miami Heat likely have the advantage in negotiations. The team can offer him a mid-level exception to come off the bench and play big minutes against Roy Hibbert of the Indiana Pacers.
