The second and final game on tonight’s 2014 NBA playoffs schedule takes place at the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas, where the Rockets host the Trail Blazers in Game 2 of their best-of-seven series. According to an April 22, 2014, AP report, this game will be televised live beginning at 9:40 p.m. EST (8:40 p.m. CT/6:40 p.m. PT) on TNT, CSH and KGW, and online at TNT Overtime (free live stream).
Much like we’ve seen throughout this year’s postseason, home-court advantage hasn’t been much of a factor in this series either. Thus, the fifth-seeded (1-0) Portland Trail Blazers will try and take a commanding 2-0 lead over the fourth-seeded (0-1) Houston Rockets before heading back home for the next two games.
As reported by the Miami Herald on Wednesday, April 23, 2014, Portland stole the series opener 122-120, thanks in part to its two superstars. Coming into this series as underdogs, the Trail Blazers relied on LaMarcus Aldridge, who finished with a (postseason) franchise-record 46 points to go with his 18 rebounds, and Damian Lillard, who pitched in with 31, to carry them home.
In Houston’s case, an April 23, ESPN report describes how TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal blamed the franchise’s big offseason acquisition, Dwight Howard, as the reason for the Rockets loss in Game 1. Trailing by nine points with less than five minutes to go in the game, Portland employed its version of the “Hack-a-Dwight” and it paid off beautifully.
The former Laker converted in his first two attempts, but would go on to miss his next four. This allowed the Blazers to get back on the game, and shifted momentum in their favor in crunch time. Portland would go on to win in overtime, setting up a must-win situation for Howard and the Rockets tonight.
