The second 2014 NBA playoffs Game 7 clash on Sunday’s ABC double-header schedule features the Mavericks vs. Spurs, a pair of intrastate rivals in a clash that will be televised nationally and live streaming free online. As reported by Yahoo! on May 3, this contest gets underway at 3:30 p.m. EST (2:30 p.m. CST/1:30 p.m. PST) following the conclusion of the other Game 7 on the slate between the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors.

Despite coming into the postseason as the eighth seed, the (3-3) Dallas Mavericks have been able to push the defending Western Conference champions to the brink of elimination. Can the improbable Mavs finish the job and deal the (3-3) San Antonio Spurs a devastating blow in front of their home fans?

As detailed by Rob Mahoney in his May 3 SI report, with its back against the wall, Dallas showed a never-say-die attitude on Friday night, coming away with a gutsy 113-111 win. With the series even at three games apiece, the Mavericks travel south with hopes of coming away with their biggest win of the season.

In San Antonio’s case, having a 6-on-5 advantage couldn’t help this team come away with a victory. ESPN’s Dave McMenamin explains how Game 6 could’ve had a catastrophic ending, as the Spurs actually had six players on the court during the final play (1.3 left in the fourth quarter).

Trailing by two points and needing to go the length of the court (no timeouts), Gregg Popovich (inadvertently or intentionally) had Boris Diaw, Manu Ginobili, Patty Mills, Danny Green, Kawhi Leonard and Tim Duncan on the court at the same time. After reviewing the play, NBA spokesman Tim Frank announced that the referees – James Capers, Jason Phillips and Zach Zarba – missed what could’ve been the game-winner.

Fortunately, the Mavs held on despite being down a player to force today’s sudden death Game 7. The question now becomes: Can Dallas finish off San Antonio at the AT&T Center, where this team went 32-9 during the NBA regular season?

For what it’s worth, NBA playoffs oddsmakers have the Spurs as seven-point favorites against the Mavericks. The OVER/UNDER tallies to 198 points total, and straight-up betting lines value San Antonio at -330, while Dallas’ odds of an upset stand at +265 today.
