NBA playoff standings 2014 news has the Phoenix Suns taking over the No. 8 spot in the West. The updated 2014 NBA playoff standings also have the Dallas Mavericks on the outside looking in. That's not what owner Mark Cuban wants to see for his Mavs. On Monday night (March 24), the Suns beat the Atlanta Hawks to improve to 42-29 on the season and take the eighth spot by way of a tie-breaker. Now the last 11 games of the regular season become even more important.

Lakers Taking Now?

The Western Conference now has the 54-16 San Antonio Spurs holding the best record in the league with a 14-game winning streak. The Oklahoma City Thunder sit two games back at 52-18 and the LA Clippers are 4 1/2 games back at 50-21. Behind the three top teams are the 48-22 Houston Rockets at No. 4, the 45-26 Portland Trail Blazers at No. 5, and the 44-27 Golden State Warriors at No. 6. The 42-38 Memphis Grizzlies are now No. 7 and are followed by the Suns and Mavs.

The 2014 NBA playoff standings in the Eastern Conference have the 51-20 Indiana Pacers still at the top. The team is two games ahead of the 48-21 Miami Heat for the top seed and it's starting to look like it could be very competitive down the stretch. The Pacers and Heat have already punched their tickets to the postseason and are currently the only two teams in the league to have done that. Following them in the standings are the No. 3 Toronto Raptors at 39-30, the No. 4 Chicago Bulls at 40-31, the No. 5 Brooklyn Nets at 37-32, and the No. 6 Washington Wizards at 36-34.

The No. 7 Charlotte Bobcats at 34-37 and the No. 8 Atlanta Hawks at 31-38 are trying hard to hold off the 29-41 New York Knicks. The Knicks have won eight of their last 10 games and are now just 2 1/2 games back from the Hawks. That could be very interesting to watch over the next two weeks, but both teams have some tough games coming up on the schedule.
