NBA players with triple-doubles in the most consecutive games
1. Wilt Chamberlain - 9
Wilt Chamberlain holds the NBA record for most consecutive games with a triple-double with nine. Wilt accomplished the feat during the 1967-1968 season, when he had triple-doubles in nine consecutive games dating from March 9, 1968 to March 20, 1968.
That is a remarkable feat, considering Wilt Chamberlain did it in nine games spaced out over just 12 days. For the 1967-68 season, Wilt Chamberlain had 31 triple-doubles, which is the second most triple-doubles in a season in NBA history.
T-2. Michael Jordan - 7
From March 25, 1989 to April 6, 1989, Michael Jordan recorded seven consecutive triple-double games. That is the second longest streak of consecutive triple-doubles. Over the seven games, Michael Jordan averaged 30.6 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 11.0 assists per game.
I remember when Michael Jordan had the seven consecutive triple-double games. The media made somewhat of a big deal about it, but it certainly was not the big deal it would be today if a player like LeBron James was to have seven consecutive triple-double games.
In the eighth game when the streak ended, Michael Jordan had 40 points and 11 assists, but only seven rebounds. Michael Jordan had 15 triple-doubles during the 1988-89 season, which is the 10th most triple-doubles by a player in one season.
Despite the 15 triple-doubles, Michael Jordan did not lead the NBA in triple-doubles in 1989. Magic Johnson recorded 17 triple-doubles that season to lead the league.
For his career, Michael Jordan only had 28 triple-doubles, so he recorded better than half of them during the 1989 season, and 25% of them came during his seven game consecutive streak.
T-2. Oscar Robertson - 7
During the 1961-62 season, Oscar Robertson set the NBA record for most triple-doubles in a season with 41. Oscar also had a streak of seven consecutive games that season when he recorded a triple-double. That ties Oscar Robertson with Michael Jordan for the second longest streak of consecutive triple-double games.
Oscar Robertson is the all-time leader in triple-doubles with 181. In addition to his 41 triple-doubles in 1962, Oscar Robertson also had two seasons when he recorded 26 triple-doubles, and two more seasons when he had 22 and 20 triple-double games.
