In such a shortened season, this year's NBA All-Star starters are getting the nod despite a very small sampling size. As the starters were announced on Thursdays, starting Portland Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge was beat out by sophomore Blake Griffin.
Griffin received 876,451 votes, whereas Aldridge received just 279,500. Aldridge finished fourth among power forwards, behind Griffin, Pau Gasol, Dirk Nowitzki, and Oregon native Kevin Love.
Aldridge is averaging 22.6 points per game with 8.5 rebounds. Griffin is averaging 21.6 points per game with 11.2 rebounds. The Clippers forward is also currently leading the NBA in dunks (53) while Aldridge is 21st in the league with 21 dunks.
Former #2 overall draft pick (2007) Kevin Durant finished second in the Western Conference for most votes (behind Kobe Bryant.) Not to rub it in or anything, but former #1 overall draft pick (2007), Greg Oden, has been spending his time posing for photo ops with 6'7 prostitutes.
No other Blazers were anywhere near being in contention for a starting spot in the NBA All-Star game. Here's how the starters shape up for 2012:
