The NBA All-Star Weekend 2013 schedule is in full swing as the Celebrity Game and Rising Stars Challenge each concluded on Friday evening. Now, All-Star Saturday night gives way to several more annual traditions including the 2013 Sprite Slam Dunk and Foot Locker Three-Point Contest.
According to a report from NBC Sports on Feb. 15, this year's contest will have some interesting judges. Former NBA stars Clyde Drexler, Dikembe Mutombo, Hakeem Olajuwon and Yao Ming will be judging along with former coach, Rudy Tomjanovich. While only Drexler is credited as one of the all-time great dunkers in league history, Hakeem, Mutombo and Yao have certainly had their share of facials and being "posterized" by dunkers. So it should be interesting to see how the voting goes, even though it will be fans who vote by text, Twitter or at NBA.com for the 2013 Slam Dunk winner.
The four events for NBA All-Star Saturday Night will start after 8:30 p.m. EST with the Sears Shooting Stars, followed by theTaco Bell Skills Challenge, Foot Locker Three-Point Contest, and Sprite Slam Dunk. Shooting for the three-point title this year will be Paul George of Indiana, Kyrie Irving of Cleveland, Steve Novak of New York, Ryan Anderson of New Orleans, Matt Bonner of San Antonio and Stephen Curry of Golden State. Last year's champion Kevin Love will not compete.
This year's dunk contest features three competitors from the Eastern Conference and three from the Western. They'll include Gerald Green of the Pacers, Terrence Ross of the Raptors and James White of New York n the East. On the Western Conference side it'll be Eric Bledsoe of the Clippers, Kenneth Faried of the Nuggets, and defending 2012 dunk champ, Jeremy Evans of the Jazz. The start time for the dunk contest may not arrive until after 10 or 10:30 p.m. EST, based on how long the events prior to it take.
In Friday's action, Team Chuck defeated Team Shaq 163-135. The Denver Nuggets' Kenneth Faried of the Denver Nuggets took the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge MVP with an impressive 40-point performance, while Kevin Hart won an interesting MVP award for the NBA Celebrity game with just 5 points. What will the events of Saturday night have in store as new champions are crowned for the 2013 Sprite Slam Dunk and Foot Locker Three-Point Contest?
