NBA All-Star Game 2014 results: MVP, Winner of East vs. West update

The NBA All-Star Game 2014 results are in progress, with the Western Conference holding to a double digit lead through the third quarter. As of the latest reports, Kevin Durant and Blake Griffin were leading the way for their teams, as the MVP award was yet to be handed out to the Most Valuable Player. The latest game was at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans, home of the Pelicans.

2014 All-Star Game Update: The Eastern Conference comes from behind to win the All-Star Game 163 to 155 over the Western Conference. The MVP Award goes to Kyrie Irving of the Cleveland Cavaliers. Irving scored 31 points and dished out 14 assists for the East.

According to an ESPN.com box score report from Feb. 16, the score was 123 to 112 with about three minutes left in the third quarter of the latest All-Star Game. A record was set for combined first half points, with a total of 165 scored between the two teams. Blake Griffin nearly tied or set a record for first quarter points, as he had 18 in just that first quarter. As of the third quarter, he and Kevin Durant were battling stats-wise for the MVP honors.

Griffin and Durant each had 30 points late in the third, although Durant also had 8 rebounds and 4 assists to round out his stat line. Griffin had 1 assist and 5 boards. The only other double-digit scorer on the West as of this report in the third was Kevin Love. Meanwhile, the East was led by five players in double digits, including Carmelo Anthony with 24 and LeBron James with 18. Kyrie Irving had a double-double with 16 points and 10 assists.

As of this report, the East had started to make a run to chip into the West’s lead, bringing it to a four point deficit. With a quarter left to be played, it’s expected that defenses will tighten up and both teams will make more of a game of it. The latest edition of the NBA All-Star Game was televised on TNT with online coverage on TNT Overtime website.
