The NBA 30 in 30 is a look at each team as the coming 2013-2014 season approaches. This look reviews their current roster, last year's experience, new developments and a prediction as to where the organization will end at the conclusion of the upcoming year of NBA action.
Coming off of a 43-39 season last year the Utah Jazz find themselves in an interesting position coming into the new season. Last season they were involved in a close race for the final playoff spot which they eventually lost to the Los Angeles Lakers. Unfortunately for this small market team, the off season has seen them lose many of the key players that helped that push which nearly took them too the post season. Mo Williams, Paul Milsap and Al Jefferson have all moved on to other teams, which leaves the job of carrying this unit in untested hands.
In looking at the point guards assigned to this team they do not have a name that can immediately step up into leadership. Jamaal Tinsely may be the front runner due to experience but Trey Burke, Alec Burks, John Lucas and Raul Neto could be tapped just due to no one else standing out. Gordon Hayward should command the two-guard position as his 14.1 points per game were amongst the highest on the roster last year.
Richard Jefferson should lead their forward position even though he is coming off of a bad year. He's a proven starter that should add some much needed experience to this team. Marvin Williams will most likely be the starting power forward even though his numbers from last season will need to vastly improve for him to be effective at the position.
Rookie Rudy Gobert looks to challenge Enes Kanter for the starting center position, which Kanter should have an inside track into taking.
Coach Tyrone Corbin has a stiff test to keep this team above .500 for the third year in a row. Without many of his key players that have helped in the last few seasons, he's charged to lead a unit that is mostly inexperienced in key areas on the floor. This team should be expected to take a step back from last season and fall behind the other groups in the Western Conference.
