The NBA 30 in 30 is a look at each team as the coming 2013-2014 season approaches. This look reviews their current roster, last year's experience, new developments and a prediction as to where the organization will end at the conclusion of the upcoming year of NBA action.
25-57 was the abysmal record that the Phoenix Suns finished with last season. It's been three seasons since the Suns have been able to make it into the post season and the team is still trying to restructure since the days of Steve Nash and Amar'e Stoudemire. This year looks to be another in that rebuilding process.
Looking at the Suns roster there aren't any big star power names that stand out like on other teams. Goran Dragic was a serviceable point guard who started 77 games for the team while averaging 14.7 points and 7.4 assists per game. The team lost their two biggest pieces in Luis Scola and Jared Dudley during the off season and will be looking for a primary scorer to replace them. Eric Bledsoe and Shannon Brown have the potential to lead the team in scoring, but they still haven't proven themselves to be impact players in the league.
Marcin Gortat could be a solid center for the Suns as he averaged nearly a double-double last year in points and rebounds. Channing Frye should be the teams starting power forward as he has the most experience in that role.
The Suns are going to need a lot of help to recover from their statistical output last season. They were 26th in points allowed per game while 21st in their own scoring offense. Things do not seem to be headed in a better direction at this point in time as the team management group haven't put together a great roster at this point in time. It will be interesting to see if they bring in any stars via a package deal at some point in the year, as some current members of their roster could be valuable to other teams.
For Suns fans though, expectations should be kept low as this unit will finish close to the bottom of the Western Conference.
