The NBA 30 in 30 is a look at each team as the coming 2013-2014 season approaches. This look reviews their current roster, last year's experience, new developments and a prediction as to where the organization will end at the conclusion of the upcoming year of NBA action.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have put together a roster of many players that are not well known but they have two individuals on their roster who are stars in the making. Kevin Love and Ricky Rubio have the power to greatly drive this team even to the point where they can sneak into a playoff spot. However, this all rides on if they can stay healthy for the whole year and looking at last season that may be tough.
Love and Rubio played in a combined 75 games last year which left the Minnesota roster greatly depleted. Even in that short a time Love was able to manage averaging 18.3 points per game and 14 rebounds; keeping the trend alive that he's a walking double-double machine. Rubio is continuing to grow into the point guard position as he was averaging 10.7 points per game and 7.3 due to injury hampering his time on the court. If these two impact players can stay on the floor together they should become an entertaining duo to watch.
Outside of Rubio and Love the Timberwolves front office have put together an interesting roster. Kevin Martin has developed into a sixth man that teams can count on and played well as a part of the Oklahoma Thunder last year. J.J. Barea is a former champion backup point guard who adds additional experience off the bench. The combination of Corey Brewer and Chase Budinger should add some ability scoring from the small forward position.
The Minnesota Timberwolves may find themselves in a close race to grab the final position in the Western Conference playoffs. They may not have all the big name talent in specific areas as other units, but their roster can pull out some sneaky wins if everyone is intact.
