“According to November 2013 NPD Data, ‘NBA 2K14’ was the best-selling sports video game on next generation consoles, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and was the number four best-selling next-gen game overall,” NPD analyst Liam Callahan said in 2K’s release.
Since its release on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4, “NBA 2K14” has sold over 340,000 copies according to video game sales tracker VGChartz. For Jason Argent, SVP of Basketball Operations for 2K, this was the plan along. Hailed by critics and fans alike, the game has outpaced its competition, EA’s “NBA Live 14” from its initial release. To date, “Live 14” has sold only 60,000 combined copies on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
“NBA 2K14 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One distinguished itself by providing an entirely new experience designed specifically for next-gen platforms, featuring all-new game modes distinct from the current-gen version of NBA 2K14. We partnered with the King of Basketball, LeBron James, as our cover athlete and delivered an unprecedented level of realism, making NBA 2K14 a showcase for the potential of next-gen gaming."
