Navy yard shooter in Washington, D.C. has resulted in at least 10 people shot. At least four people have been killed and six more are thought to be wounded. According to NBC News on Sept. 16, 2013, a gunman is on the loose.
SWAT officers swarmed the facility, the headquarters of the Naval Sea Systems Command at the Washington Navy Yard.
Navy Yard shooter has resulted in two police officers being shot and eight civilians. It is not known yet if the police are among the dead or if they are all civilians. According to the official US Navy Twitter feed, shots were fired at 8:20 a.m. ET at the Sea Systems Command headquarters in building 197. Military officials claim that the gunman is armed with an AR-15, a military-style assault rifle. The shooter was described as "tall and dark-skinned" by witnesses.
Flights have been grounded at Reagan National Airport. President Barack Obama is being given regular briefings.
The Navy Yard shooter location is by the Anacostia River and near the headquarters of the Department of Transportation and the Washington Nationals baseball stadium. Approximately 3,000 people work in the Navy Yard building.
