On Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, the Navy SEALs executed a pre-dawn strike in Somalia, according to a report from Vibe.com. During this raid, the Navy SEALs took out a leader of Al-Shabab, which is a group that has been repeatedly linked to al-Qaeda.
This group known as Al-Shabab is the same group that claimed responsibility for a horrific attack last month. The terrorist group said claimed that they were the ones that executed the Kenyan mall siege that ended with 67 people killed back on Sept. 21, 2013.
It is believed that the Navy SEALs went into Somalia and killed members of the Al-Shabab group who were stationed in the town of Baraawe. Soon after, the SEALs were forced to back out.
A member of Al-Shabab actually got on Twitter and posted that one of its members had been killed in the raid carried out by the Navy SEALs. There are no reports of any American casualties and no official word on how many members of Al-Shabab were taken out.
This attack included ground troops and helicopters and lasted more than an hour. It is being called the biggest strike on Somali militants since a raid back in 2009 that took out al-Qaeda leader Saleh Ali Saleh Nabhan.
