"The two crew members are being treated at local hospitals right now," Navy spokeswoman Lt. Lauryn Dempsey said. "Both are stable."
The Navy jet was a two-seater T-45C Goshawk. It was jet assigned to Training Squadron 86 and was on a training flight. The aircraft was approaching the end of the runway when it crashed at the end of it at about 10:30 a.m. Both crew members were transported to the hospital. One of the pilots was a training instructor and the other was a Navy flight student.
Identities of the pilots have not been released.
The Navy jet crash is under investigation. The Naval air station feels fortunate that the crash wasn't more serious, killing both pilots.
