Navy JAG attorney to serve more than 10 years in prison for child pornography

July 9, 2011

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 44-year-old Navy JAG attorney has been sentenced to more than 10 years in federal prison for receiving and distributing child pornography.
Mark Tilford, who at the time of his indictment was an active duty Navy JAG Lieutenant Commander, pleaded guilty in March.
In July 2010, a Corpus Christi police detective working undercover downloaded multiple files of child pornography traced to a computer at Tilford's residence. Eventually, 266 images and 98 videos of suspected child pornography were found on two computers.
Senior U.S. District Judge Janis Graham Jack sentenced Tilford to a lifetime term of supervised release and ordered him to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
It also seems that Tilford may have a history of libido-related legal troubles. There’s an entry for him in a database maintained by the Corpus Christi police department of prostitution offenses, which states that he was arrested on April 3, 2010, on a charge of “Prostitution.” The ultimate disposition of that charge is unclear.
