After the Seattle Seahawks advanced to their second ever Super Bowl by defeating the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 19, 2014, Richard Sherman took over the spotlight. There were a number of other situations during the game that took center stage, and that included the gruesome injury to 49ers linebacker NaVorro Bowman and the Seahawks fans that threw food at him as he was carted off the field.
Bowman's injury, a likely ACL tear, happened during a goal-line stand late in the fourth quarter. His leg got bent underneath him and twisted his knee sideways before he collapsed to the ground. The thing is that Bowman actually held onto the fumble he stripped away from the Seahawks Jermaine Kearse.
The play itself ended up being a travesty as the ball was ruled over to the Seahawks and it was a play that was non-reviewable. Making matters worse was Bowman's injury.
Trainers immediately came out to Bowman and he was put up onto the cart and taken off the field. As he was being carted off on the sideline, some Seahawks fans actually threw food at him. Video was shown of something falling on Bowman as the cart took him back.
"Seahawks fans threw food at Bowman on his way out."
This is not to say that all Seattle fans are bad, but it only takes a few to get the focus off of the good. Throw this situation in with Richard Sherman's outburst and most of the attention has been taken off of the Seahawks heading to their second Super Bowl.
