With a fourth game in the Uncharted series announced for the Playstation 4, Naughty Dog’s adventure series was very close to being named something other than Uncharted in the beginning. According to a report by VG247 on Jan 2, the developer revealed that the project initially didn’t even have a planned title while it was being created. In fact, it wasn’t even until the game’s first trailer was being made for E3 that Naughty Dog decided that they needed to finally name the series.

Speaking to IGN, Naughty Dog Co-President Evan Wells revealed that when they originally decided to title the project Uncharted, the name was turned down by Sony because the term means that a title didn’t sell well in the UK. The studio was so close to actually naming the franchise something else that the first trailer didn’t even give a name for the project when the initial video was shown at E3 for the first time. In fact, it wasn’t until weeks after the trailer reveal that Sony finally gave their approval of the name Uncharted, which Naughty Dog decided to use.

A new Uncharted game is currently in development exclusively for the Playstation 4.
