Before deciding to create The Last of Us on the PS3, Naughty Dog initially planned to develop a Jak and Daxter reboot. According to a report by Shack News on Oct 3, creative director Neil Druckmann recently explained how one of the year’s most popular Playstation 3 titles almost didn’t happen.
While working on the Jak and Daxter reboot, Naughty Dog came to the conclusion that they didn’t have anything constructively valuable to add to the series’ fans at this point and thus decided it would be best to shift their focus to work on an entirely new franchise.
This new project, which would eventually become The Last of Us, was originally inspired by the zombies found within the popular line of George Romero directed horror movies. This idea slowly evolved until the final game’s post-apocalyptic setting and characters began to form.
The Last of Us is out now as a Playstation 3 exclusive.
