Nature's power to nurture

The news has a daily headline of a tragedy that has taken place somewhere in Nashville. The negative effects of stress is becoming a frequent focus in the collective consciousness. A lot of people are still seeking answers to the eternal question, "what is the meaning of life?". People appear to be looking for answers in books, tapes, and whatever source they can find. Perhaps it is time for us to be reminded that the answer we seek is most often right in front of us....we just do not see it yet.

Take the beauty of nature, for example. Simply taking a little time for yourself to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather that Nature is sharing is what you need. We always hear about the floods, hurricanes and other strengths of Mother Nature; however, it is just as important, if not more so, to point out the beauty She gives us to enjoy. When the sun shines, step out and absorb some of the vitamin D that is given to you without taking a pill. Let the sun rays ignite the release of melatonin from your pineal gland to ignite the process of chemical releases to sleep well at night. Take deep inhalations of the fresh air and give your body more oxygen to properly give your cells what they need to perform their relentless duty of maintaining your body. Allow the sun to share its gifts simply by being in it.

Feeling stressed, restless or overwhelmed about something? Take a walk outside when you can. Just like life, the weather is becoming more and more unpredictable from what we expect it to be. Instead of wasting time wondering what it is going to be like this winter, enjoy what is giving us now. The time will come when winter kicks in and we will be looking forward to when it is warm again. Do not waste time worrying about tomorrow's predictions. The point is...enjoy it NOW.

Take a moment see the beauty of nature in the western part of our country. Then, take the time to go and immerse yourself in some of Nashville's most beautiful places. They are all outdoors and they are all lovely because it is Mother Nature who did the real work. Great places to see are Cheekwood, Radnor Lake, Percy Warner Park, Centennial Park or maybe...your own backyard. Give admiring Nature's beauty and feeling it's calmness a chance to envelop you. It might be just what the doctor ordered.

Have a beautiful day and see what you can do to make the most of it!
