Nature Center at Shaker Lakes Offers Year-Round Classes

The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes (http://www.shakerlakes.org) hosts activities and classes for all ages throughout the year. Anyone in the community can come and learn about gardening, bird watching, natural habitats and how to live more “greenly”.

The Nature Center is located at 2600 South Park Blvd. in Cleveland and is easily accessible on the RTA’s Green line. http://www.shakerlakes.org/visit/hours-directions.php

Upcoming classes include “Brush up for Spring” where visitors can learn about identifying the many varieties and species of birds that are in our area this time of year, “Experiential Gardening Workshops for Families”, where you can learn about starting your garden seeds indoors before planting them outside in spring, and a workshop about learning how to use rain barrels in your garden to harvest the goodness and purity of rain water.

The center also hosts nature hikes and explorations into the lifecycles of our native flora and fauna. Local chefs are also featured at many events, demonstrating how to prepare food using both locally sourced food and how to identify edible plants that may be growing wild in your own backyard.

Make sure to set aside some time when you visit, as you will likely find plenty to do and see there when you visit. The Nature Center boasts two walking trails and six natural habitats for the nature lover to explore. You might get lucky enough to see some of the dozens of native birds, mammals and amphibians that call the Nature Center their home.

Make sure to stop by the Duck Pond Gift Shop, where you will find a wide variety of nature inspired gifts. Your purchase also helps keep the Nature Center up and operating for all of Cleveland to enjoy.
