Natural Selection 2 drops Gorgeous update with Steam sale (Photos)

The war for interstellar supremacy is still waging. The difference now lies on the playing field, between the Gorge and Exo-Suit. Who will win? Who will cry? Who will do their taxes on time? Find out now.

Released today, is the first major update for NS2 since launching in October of 2012. Sure regular bug and performance fixes have been uploaded too, but this one is special. The “Gorgeous” build features a new map, graphic enhancements, weapons, abilities and a celebratory sale on Steam. Would you like to know more?

To celebrate the launch of Gorgeous, we are running a 50% off sale on Steam, starting the moment the update goes live,” said Unknownworlds in a press release. If you own NS2, the update is available now.

This beefy package comes with some intriguing gameplay additions, most notably, the Gorge Tunnels and Babbler’s. The former allows the Gorge to build underground infested tunnel systems, giving alien teammates tactical access throughout the map. However, marines can also traverse these passageways, though they take armor damage the moment they enter. Additionally, Babbler’s add another dimension to the Gorge’s arsenal. These small creatures can be spawned in great numbers providing a personal army that can be given attack and defend orders. For example, if you see a marine, you can send them on a swarming rampage or have them attach themselves to alien comrades, creating a defensive barrier towards opposing gun fire.

On the marine side, we have The Railgun, which equips the Exo-Suit with a powerful right arm cannon that can one shot kill Skulks when fully charged. Toasty! This weapon substitutes the single and twin minigun.

Furthermore, the Gorgeous update comes with a new map, dubbed Descent; and according to Unknownworlds, “Descent is a brand new battlefield, and the most visually rich map yet seen in NS2.” Check out the screens to see what they’re talking about.

Other changes come in the form of graphical clarity. Damage decals, reflections, refractions and cloaking all have improved visual effects. In addition, a more refined tutorial has been implemented for newcomers. For the full changelog head on over to the official site.

Typically, content this rich would cost a small fee, as per the DLC standard. However, Gorgeous is being offered free of charge. All you need is the game, which sits at $12.49. This price gets you everything NS2 has to offer and this hefty update. You had me at gorgeous. Be sure to check out the trailer and see the update action in full swing.
