Providence Perfume Company has become known as an all-natural fragrance brand with high quality scents that can easily stand with more mainstream offerings. Recently, the company has branched out with scented oils, and now a new bath and body line has been introduced, featuring shower gel, body lotion and hand cream. After testing these products, I can recommend them very highly. The idea behind this range is to bring the sophistication of fine fragrance to products that sometimes suffer from being afterthoughts. There are five different fragrances from which to choose, and there is something for everyone. All of the products I tested are available from the Providence Perfume Company Web site.
This has been a very cold and drying winter, and I can't think of a better reward than to treat yourself to a really good hand cream. I tested the Stonefruit & Ylang cream, and it does the job of deep moisturizing while imparting the delicious aromas of apricot and peach combined with the damp tropical sweetness of the ylang ylang flower. This is a very rich formula featuring rose water, shea, mango and cocoa butters and soothing aloe and calendula. This is one of the best-smelling body products I have ever tried, and of course being from this brand, it's all natural with no harsh chemicals.
The bath and shower gels create a good lather, and although it does not make as many bubbles as one would get with regular products it is more than adequate. They are plant based, detergent free and very gentle on the skin. I especially liked the invigorating Gin & Tonic in the morning, as it really does smell like its namesake, bursting with zesty citrus. On the opposite end of the spectrum, Chai Cocoa is a cozy, sweet scent that makes taking a shower a purely luxurious event. I could happily use this one every day during the winter. It smells good enough to eat with its mixture of rich chocolate and Indian chai spices.
The body lotions are very good, well scented but not overwhelming, and they leave a subtle veil of scent on the skin. They are enriched with olive, coconut and jojoba oils and imbued with aloe. I have enjoyed wearing the Chai Cocoa lotion as “perfume” and just like real perfume, it changes according to skin chemistry and dries down to a gently sweet skin musk that lasts a long time. The Fern is a cool, sophisticated green fragrance based on the classic fougère style of scent that will work well for either men or women; it and the Gin & Tonic are both ideal for warm weather use. At first I thought the Sandalwood was a little too “dry” for my personal taste, but as soon as it was on my skin it mellowed out beautifully while not becoming sweet at all – men especially should love this one in all the product formulations.
