Natural Grocers opens store in Medford, Oregon

As reported in Organic Foodies Online, Natural Grocers by Vitamin Cottage, based out of Lakewood, Colo., will hold its grand opening on Tuesday, March 26, at 1990 N. Pacific Highway, near the Rogue Valley Mall. The company operates 64 stores in 12 Mountain and Midwestern states. Oregon becomes its 13th state, with the closest store at present in Boise.

The store plans on filling what they describe as an under-served niche in the Southern Oregon area, and hopes to complement, not compete with, Trader Joes, Medford Co-Op, Food 4 Less, Health Food Mart, and the Farmers' Market, by offering only organic food, as well as more meat than the other natural foods stores. Natural Grocers also carries organic and natural beverages, supplements, body care, baby care, household and pet products. The new market will offer family activities during its grand opening, as well as free samples and a grand prize drawing.

As a reflection of the owners' commitment being bag-free, your groceries will be "bagged" in free boxes or you're welcome to bring your own bags, or purchase sturdy, reusable, 99-cent bags onsite. Each time you bring your own bags, Natural Grocers donates five cents to a local food bank, at no cost to you.

Later this year, Natural Grocers plans to open more stores, including a location in Salem in June, followed by Beaverton and Bend.

I grew up living sustainably, out of necessity. Our family raised all of our food, including animals, on 2 acres. I still love to grow and put up my own food. I constantly read about and try methods to live frugally, happily, and in a way that supports the ecosystem in which we all live.
