Natural and traditional food allows local farm company to grow and expand

Wos-Wit Pennsylvania Dutch Foods, a firm that specializes in canned goods, but does not use harmful chemical to perverse them, has seen business grow dramatically in the past ten years.

Originally started in 1946, the company brought Kresege Farms in 1983, which produced local favorite Dutch foods, such as apple butter, pickled beets and canned peaches.

In 1989, the farm operations were moved from Lehighton to Tamaqua, which is its current manufacturing facility location.

The products always sold well at local farmers markets, and grocery stores in Lehigh and Berks County, but the market started to really expand as people wanted more farm fresh food.

Due to the changing consumer taste, and a greater demand for products naturally preserved, Wos-Wit expanded into Virginia, New York and Ohio markets.

This expansion caused the company to branch off into purchasing more product lines and also would handle either the manufacturing or distribution for other food producers.

The company brought Longo's Pizza, which produces pizza shells for at-home baking and sells them through Weis Markets, in a distribution deal. They also acquired the Tn'T Bakery pie brands, now producing shoo-fly, cherry, apple and lemon pies..

Also Wos-Wit is still making it own creations. like the new Anna's Pierogies, which is based on a recipe from the president of the company's mother.
