Resistance to imperialist geopolicitcal agenda for Libya
The incoming U.N. Security Council president has called for an investigation into human rights abuses during NATO’s bombing campaign to oust Libyan leader Moammar Gaddafi that has killed some 60,000 civilians. Deborah Dupré's sources said Wednesday that NATO has cut all communications in the oil-rich nation but the Green Resistance is showing victories in what U.S. Rep. Kucinich identifies as another U.S.-led illegal war.
“There must be investigations of human rights abuses in Libya across the board: by Gadhafi regime supporters, by the rebels, by NATO, anybody who was involved in that conflict as mandated by the resolution 1973 and 1970 should be held accountable,” said Baso Sangqu, South Africa’s U.N. Ambassador who holds the rotating Security Council presidency for January.
Sangqu said he believed NATO killed an untold number of innocent civilians. Gaddafi was accused of killing his own people when NATO forces had committed many of those atrocities, as Human Rights Investigation (HRI) revealed in May, news that the mainstream press failed to report.
"People are vanishing in broad daylight in Libya, as the country’s new rulers continue to settle accounts with their opponents," reported Russia Today (RT) on Dec. 21. "Widespread insecurity means the families of the kidnapped can do no more than hope that their loved ones are still alive."
An NGO, Mitiga Missing People, led by human rights defender Mohammad Miloud Benhammed is one of the only places Libyans can go for aid.
“It’s usually mothers who come here, and at first they are scared to tell me that their son or husband was with the Gaddafi forces. They usually say he was a civilian caught in the crossfire. But I tell them that I don’t care which side he was on. All I need is accurate information so that we can start searching,” the head of Mitiga Missing People group told RT.
"I hope he’s in Tunisia. Maybe he’s in a hospital. Maybe he’s lost his memory or has no way of contacting us,” said Evyed Farhatn, whose brother disappeared on the frontlines of Bani Walid.
"The imperialist geopolitical agenda for Libya supported by U.N. intervention and 'NATO Rebels,' include destruction so extreme, many Libyans have become refugees, attempting to flee, while the U.N. humanitarian coordinator warned of critical shortages of drinking water, food, fuel, and medicine," reported Dupré in September.
Intensifying the human rights abuses and frustrating the struggle to find loved ones, NATO has cut all electronic communications in Libya, according to a private email from an independent reporter in Libya sending reports to Deborah Dupré via human rights defender of Community Progressive Radio, Don De Bar Wednesday.
In the private email, the independent reporter wrote, "I cannot have the same confidence in these reports (below) that I had during the 8 months that I was receiving direct and indirect information from Libya, before NATO finally cut off all flow of information."
"Russia has also called for an independent U.N. investigation of civilian casualties," reports the Washington Post.
Mathaba reported on New Years Day, "NATO is still insulting our intelligence by claiming that there was no casualty from their bombing campaign which includes 26,323 sorties, 9,658 air strikes, 7,700 bombs and missiles fired by NATO on the Libyan people, with the complicity of the United Nations that was meant to protect them."
A United Nations statement Thursday, attributing Libyan violence to "rebels,"(called "NATO rebels" in Libya) included statements by Georg Charpentier, UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator and deputy head of the UN Support Mission for Libya (UNSMIL).
“Public infrastructure, housing, education and health facilities need to be rehabilitated, reconstructed and reactivated, intense and focused reconciliation efforts also need to be encouraged," Charpentier said. (Also see: "Sixteen things Libyans will never see again.")
Continuing to deny Libyan civilian casualties, NATO spokeswoman Oana Lungescu in Belgium denied that the alliance exceeded its mandate or that its bombing resulted in a large number of civilian casualties.
“Throughout the operation, we took every precaution to minimize the risk to civilians with solid intelligence, a very strict target selection and precision-guided munition. And we repeatedly warned civilians to stay away from military installations and equipment. We did everything we could to reduce the risk, while also making clear that in an air campaign that risk can never be zero.”
British anti-war organization Stop the War Coalition certified that NATO-backed rebels to use weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in Libya through bombs and missiles containing DU (depleted uranium) to kill as many people as possible. (Also see: "Depleted Uranium Training Video- DU is a WMD," YouTube.)
Daniele Cardetta, in the Italian newspaper Articolo3, reported that up to 60,000 people were killed, accounting for 1% of the entire population, a figure almost equal to 3 million American citizens, that foreign powers would have killed using unconventional bombs, according to a report by Jean-Paul Pougala for Mathaba.
On December 21, Russia Today reported, "After the NATO-backed rebels overran Gaddafi’s home town of Sirte, staring death in the face became an everyday experience for residents of the loyalist stronghold.
"Local men, young and old, were captured by the winners, who delivered a summary verdict – the Colonel’s countrymen were labeled “Gaddafi dogs” – with the associated deadly consequences.
"Scenes of rebels executing loyalists played out all across Libya for months as the rebels, assisted by Western powers, sought to liberate the country. Urban legends about the Colonel’s sadistic tendencies grew more outlandish by the day, justifying any sort of treatment for his perceived loyalists."
Unverified reports from Deborah Dupré's Libyan human rights defender source sympathetic to the Green Resistance rather than NATO's invasion indicate that the resistance to NATO forces is holding strong with more cities returning to Green, designating NATO is struggling to take over the nation.
According to the human rights defender source, "it has always been known that The Green Resistance would fight on."
The source says that the "glowing" reports he had been sending for most of the eight months were accurate: "The LDF and the people of Libya, fighters by nature and history, had shocked NATO and the entire world by forcing the most powerful military alliance in human history to spend 9 months in a tooth-and-nail fight.
"When NATO finally realized that it could not do it alone, it started recruiting Al-Qaeda fighters, European mercenaries, Afghani mercinaries, Qatar mercenaries, Pakistani mercenaries, and even mercenaries from Columbia, South America."
The following are excerpts from a series of the source's emails he received from a human rights defender on the front line in Libya:
Email One: "The resistance continues in Libya. Overall, it's getting worse for the NTC [National Transitional Council] and better for the Green Resistance. Reports continue to indicate that... In time, the world will know. More later."
Email Two: "What you have listed here concurs with the reports I have been getting for several days. I have always been certain that the NTC will lose.
"You have thousands of Libyans living abroad who are not receiving money they are accustom[ed] to receiving from the Libyan government. That means not only people in Libya are fighting against the NTC, but an increasing number in the Diaspora are also finding ways to fight them.
Email Three: "The NTC gangs have a limited short life. The Libyan people will clean them out quickly, and this is what Jalil [the traitor-"leader" of Libya] is concerned about and is why we saw his words in the New York Times today speaking from Benghazi about the four rats [traitors] killed by the [Green] Libyan Liberation in Tripoli. He's in Benghazi because Tripoli is a death trap for him."
[NOTE: The significance of this, of course is that Tripoli is the capital of Libya. But Jalil has never been able to permanently move to [move to] Tripoli, due to fear for his life, because the situation in Tripoli is NOT totally under his control]
1. The Green Resistance has captured Ghaddams [a city ] near [the] Algerian border. And the Green Flag of the Libyan Jamahiriya is flying throughout the entire area.2. It is now "confirmed" that the entire city of Sabha is Green [That is, is under the total control of the Libyan Jamahiriya]. The Green resistance is securing the Rest of entire Southern lands of Libya now.3. Very heavy fighting is occurring in Tripoli. The Bani Walid Tribe has arrived in Tripoli and is supported by the People of Tripoli.4. The Bel haj Brigade [Al-Qaeda fighters] has retreated from the Gharyan Area. They are heading back to Tripoli after losing a fight there.5. There are large protests in Tunisia calling for the freedom of Mahmoud Bagdadi, the Prime Minister of the only true Libyan Government, the Jamahiriya.6. The Zintan Brigade fought against Bel haj brigade and against the [Khalifa] Hefter brigade. There have been shoot outs for last 2 nights in Tripoli [NOTE: There is confusion as to the true position of the Zintan Brigade, which, currently, is holding Saif al-Islam, a son of Muammar Gaddafi's, under arrest. It is not really known whether Zintan has "gone Green," or is simply fighting to get a slice of a new Libyan pie. Some observers claim that Saif has convinced the Zintan brigade to "go Green."They cite as their "evidence" the fact that the Zintanis have steadfastly refused to hand Saif over to the new, so-called government authorities. If this is true, then this is very, very significant. Because NOBODY--not even Al-Qaeda--wants to tangle with the Zintanis, if they can help it. They are very, very heavily armed. There is a video showing the "captured" Saif, STRONGLY talking to Zintanis, in a living room, as they all sat around at his feet. This is what is confusing, except if you consider the fact that the Zintanis are typical desert people, NOT murderous Al-Qaeda members, and they have desert hospitality culture. So, either the Zintanis were simply being "desert courteous," or Saif, as XXXX believes, has convinced the Zintanis to "go Green." I have NO idea what the real situation is, I'm sorry to say].7. The city of Zawiyah has gone green totally, and the Green Flag has been flying in all parts of the city now for 2 days. The militias met with the Green Resistance at Zawiyah [NOTE: I do not know what it means that "the militias met" with the Green Resistance. In the past, the term "militias" had referred to anti-Gaddafi Libyan fighters. If that is still the case, then what this report means is that those anti-Gaddafi militias have gone Green. But, I cannot be sure of that, because I am not really certain how the term "militias" is being used. Terminology is changing in Libya, and it can be difficult to know what is going on. Some believe that this change of terminology is a purposeful tactic being employed by the Green Resistance in order to keep NATO and the traitors off balance.8. Sabha, Tarhuna, Zawiyah, Gharyan and Ghadames are all 100% Green now. Green flags are flying in all parts of those cities.
