Native men's fast & fancy dancers at the 'Gathering of Nations" 2014 powwow

This is the second day, Saturday of the “Gathering of Nations” (GON) Powwow on April 26, 2014. The “Pit” arena at Albuquerque is packed with more powwow fans, singers & dancers. The Funk & Soul band called, “Orgone” performed before the “grand entry of dancers” at 11:15 a.m. They had the native kids out on the floor arena dancing.

As “Orgone” played, each GON drum group was called out to the floor to show the packed audience their best dance moves. Albuquerque's own “Thunder Crew” got the biggest applause. The “grand entry of dancers” began as the master of ceremonies announced that 4,000 dancers had signed up to compete at the GON.

The dance contests began at 1 p.m. with the “Golden Age Elders”, “Juniors” & “Teens.” Comanche Elder LaDonna Harris will be honored today at 5 p.m. during the “Gourd Dancing.”

According to the “Gathering of Nations” 2014 Powwow souvenir. Here is the schedule for Saturday night's “Stage 49” performances. The Indigenous music could be heard a mile up the street from the “Pit.”

  • 5:30 to 6:10 p.m. / Lil Mike & Funny Bone / Hip Hop.

  • 6:20 to 7 p.m. / Stateline / Country Music.

  • 7:10 to 7:50 p.m. / Twice as Good / Blues & Rock.

  • 8:05 to 8:45 p.m. / 49 Laughs / Comedians.

  • 8:55 to 9:35 p.m. / The Micky Cruz Band / Cumbia-Salsa-Reggae.

  • 9:45 to 10:30 p.m. / Native Roots / Reggae.

  • 10:30 p.m. to 12: a.m. / DJ Glow Dance

  • 6 p.m. / Grand Entry of Dancers / GON song featuring 5 invited drums/ Flag Song / Prayer Invocation.

  • 7 p.m. / Final Moments for out-going 2013 Miss Indian World Kansas Begaye / The crowing of the 2014-15 Miss Indian World.

  • 8:10 p.m. / Award presentations for “Tiny Tots”, “Elders” & "Juniors” dancers.

  • 9:10 p.m. / Comeptition dancing / Adult Categories.

  • 1:30 a.m. / Award Presentations for “Teen” & "Adult” dancers.

  • 2:30 a.m. GON Powwow ends.
