The colonization efforts of European nations caused the greatest holocaust in the world’s history, wiping out about 90% or more of the population of the Americas. By the 1770s, Spain and Great Britain, the winners of the Great Land Grab Race, were rapidly gobbling up the remaining territory still occupied by indigenous peoples. Consciences were assuaged by a belief that the thousands of ruins that dotted the landscape were built by somebody else other than the red savages, who were being driven off their lands.
Some English colonists began to believe that the massive earthworks and town sites found in the interior of North America were built by the Ten Lost Tribes of Israel. One version stated that the Indians had killed off the civilized Jews, who had tamed a wild America. This appealed to colonists who had killed a sizable number of Indians. They viewed themselves as righteous people acting on behalf of God. Another version was that the Indians themselves were the Children of Israel. It was supported by those enlightened folks who wanted to stop the carnage and land thefts.
The famous trader and author, James Adair, was in the latter group. He was married to a Chickasaw woman with some Jewish ancestry. It is quite likely that Adair was of Jewish descent himself, or perhaps was even a cryptic Jew. It is quite odd that an Irishman of modest means and little formal education, who spent most of his life in remote wilderness cabin, was fluent in several dialects of Hebrew and could write in Hebrew. Much of Adair’s famous book, “The History of the American Indians” (1775) dwells on what he believed was evidence that the Indians were really the Lost Ten Tribes of Israel.
Adair’s strongest evidence was the existence of a band of mestizos within the Cherokee Alliance, who spoke a dialect of Hebrew. Adair was apparently unaware that numerous English explorers had encountered Spanish-or-Hebrew-speaking colonies in the southern Appalachians during the 1600s. Access Genealogy has recently published an article on that subject, which contains many pages of such eyewitness accounts. The 17th century Appalachian colonists of Mediterranean ancestry are also discussed in the newly published books, The Apalache Chronicles, plus Nodoroc and the Bohurons.
The Book of Mormon was first published by Joseph Smith in 1830. The Book of Mormon teaches that the Ten Tribes of Israel migrated to the Americas and established an advanced civilization. One branch of the Children of Israel, the Lamanites, killed their righteous kin, the Nephites. The book also teaches that Jesus appeared to the Lamanites, who rejected his teachings. God cursed the Lamanites with dark skin and a primitive, morally depraved culture.
The Book of Mormon teaches that the Lamanites will not have white skin again and a civilized way of life until they accept the teachings of Jesus. There is no record of any Native Americans losing their skin pigment after converting to any of the Christian denominations, including the Mormon Church.
During the 1860s English author, Barry Feller, and German author, Erich Von Danikan, led the band wagon of pseudo-anthropologists, who credited the great civilizations of the Americas to anybody but Native Americans. Prime candidates for building the Mesoamerica cities were the Phoenicians, Egyptians, Celts, Libyans, Vikings, Welsh and extraterrestrials. None of the authors were Native Americans. All of the authors presumed that Native Americans were incapable of creating a civilization.
Changing history as a tactic for proselytizing
Some predominantly Caucasian New Age cults have selectively adopted Native American traditions such as the sweat lodge. Caucasians or Africans with little or no Native heritage, dress as Plains Indians. One cult believes that the Cherokees are the master race. Their members continuously try to alter published online histories to exaggerate the role of Cherokees in the past.
“Africa first” proponents claim that the Olmecs were Africans and therefore Africans founded the first civilization in the Americas. The belief that Africans started civilization in the Americas is based primarily on the fact that the giant Olmec stone heads have big lips. Many Native Americans have big lips. A sizable percentage of African Americans have Native heritage. At one time both were enslaved.
The Nuwaubian Nation of Yamasee-Moors teaches that the builders of all the mounds in the United States were Sub-Saharan Africans and Muslim Moors. Their religion mixes traditional African rituals, Islam and caricatures of Creek Indian ceremonies. The Yamasees were a Native American tribe in the Coastal Plain in Georgia, which disappeared from the maps in the mid-1700s. The Yamasee worshiped a sun god. They were neither Africans nor Muslims.
In 2003 Graham Hancock, an American Hindu convert in California, beginning preaching a new history of the Southeastern United States that gave credit to Hindu immigrants for building all the mounds. He labeled the various Southeastern mound builders as ethnic groups from India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Nepal. Hancock spoke with the authority of a guru, but failed to consult dictionaries before giving his meanings for Creek Indian words. For example, he stated, “MUSKOKIS (Creeks). These were the Phoenician slave caste of Meshechs.” Say what? In all cases, he used the Anglicized version of Native American words to equate them with ethnic groups on the Indian sub-continent.” The Sanskrit words bore very little resemblance to the Anglicized Native American words.
Islam had some success in converting African-Americans to their religion during the late 20th century by associating Christianity with African slavery and claiming that all African slaves were originally Muslims, who were forcibly converted to Christianity.
The facts of history paint a more complex picture. Some African slaves were definitely Muslims, but they represented a small percentage. Many Christian slaveholders in the South did justify the vile institution of slavery by quoting the Bible. Abolitionists used the same Bible to condemn slavery. The abolitionist viewpoint eventually prevailed in the United States.
According to the Qur’an and the Haddith, Mohammed both owned and traded slaves. Some of them were Africans. The Sharia accepts slave laborers and sex slaves as being both legal and condoned by Allah. The African slave trade exploded during the first century of Islam’s existence. Muslim slave traders introduced their concept of human slavery to the Portuguese. Muslim slave traders continued to capture African slaves for many decades after slavery was illegal in the United States.
Muslim proselytizers are aggressively using the same tactics on Native Americans as were used with African Americans. Just as in the case of Graham Hancock, their efforts are concentrated on the Muskogean “Mound Builders” in the Southeastern United States. Persons, who claim to be Native Americans, have saturated the internet with statements that they have converted to the one true faith, Islam. These individuals consistently state that Muslims do not want to change the culture of the Native American people, just bring them the blessings of Islam. They also say that Islam is the “modern” religion for all Native Americans.
This writer challenged a woman who claimed to be both Creek Indian and a recently converted Muslim with cultural questions. She did not respond for about an hour then returned an email that was cut and pasted from Wikipedia. During the following day, she sent several emails that she said described “Christians killing Native Americans.” When sent a comparison of what Jesus said when confronted with the pending stoning of a woman for adultery and what Mohammed said in an identical situation, the woman ceased to send emails. Mohammed gave detailed instructions on how to maximize the torture of the mob’s intended victim. They are included in the Sharia and the penal codes of several Muslim countries.
The statements about Islam not wanting to change Native American culture are highly questionable. The form of traditional monotheism, practiced by the ancestors of Muskogeans is diametrically opposite to the teachings of Mohammed in many ways, but very similar to the form of Judaism practiced by the ancient Hebrews before the building of Solomon’s Temple. Solomon introduced several Egyptian practices into the state religion. Even today, the Creeks and the Samaritans of Israel both call their priests, Keepers. Both peoples practice ritual baptism. Muskogeans believe that their monotheism was revealed separately from the Hebrews, but from the same Source. Most Muskogeans today are Christians, but see no conflict with their traditional religious practices.
Muskogeans believe the Master of Life or the Creator is defined by love, not submission to authoritarian rule. Their ancestors’ faith included practices that enabled people to live together in harmony, plus prepare for eternity. Still today, Native Americans believe that humans are held accountable for their stewardship of the Earth. Such Qur’an based traditions as honor killings of teenage girls, stoning of women, crucifixion of people who oppose Islam (Qur’an 5:33) plus, of course, public beheadings, are reprehensible to Native Americans. Crucifixion is still a legal form of punishment in Saudi Arabia for opposing Islam.
Prior to the American Revolution, Native American societies were far more democratic than their European counterparts. Muskogean women were completely equal to men in all ways. The women owned all domestic buildings and farmland. Neither gender considered the human body to be inherently evil. Both genders normally went topless in warm weather until the women were pressured by Christian missionaries to cover their breasts. A man, who struck his wife or child, would be charged with a crime. If convicted by a clan jury, his punishment would be a severe beating.
The other part of the proselytizing efforts involves a revision of history. It is now said that Khishkhash ibn Said ibn Aswad Al-Qurtuby sailed to American from Iberia in 889 AD and converted the Native peoples to Islam before returning home. Another version is that a Muslim admiral on board a Chinese fleet traveled up the rivers of the Southeast in the early 1400s and converted all the natives to Islam. It is then stated that all “mounds” were built after 1430 AD, when the Southeastern Indians became Muslims.
Islamic web sites targeted at the United States describe the mounds in the Southeast as being the ruins of mosques. The Islamic scholars claim that the English Christians destroyed the Native American mosques and then forced the indigenous population to become Christians.
Imitating Graham Hancock, these web sites also start with an Anglicized version of a Native American word then link it to an Arab word instead of Hancock’s Hindu words, in order to prove that Native Americans were Muslims. One of the most humorous examples involves the Muskogee-Creek tribe. Muslim writers claim that the Creeks were originally the Mosque Indians, but Europeans forced them to change their name. The actual Native American word is Maskoke, and it has nothing to do with mosques.
No money to fight back
Millions of dollars are being spent in the United States to “educate” public educational institutions and sponsor special student body assemblies to introduce the beliefs of Islam. Such actions, if promoting any other religion, would be considered unconstitutional. Packets containing a Muslim version of Native American history for insertion in curricula are being sent to hundreds of thousands of history teachers around North America.
Very few journalists are asking Native Americans their opinion of this new history. Political correctness demands that such questions would be viewed as religious intolerance. Journalists also fear that they would be charged with “insults to Islam” and be subject to international vendettas. It has happened several times in Europe. Native Americans view these actions as yet one more example of Old World cultural imperialism that they have endured for 520 years.
A national holiday honoring Native Americans was first proposed in 1911, but Congress has never acted on it. It established Columbus Day instead to favor Italian-American voters. Native American newscasters and actors are virtually non-existent on network TV. Native American journalists and viewpoints are completely absent from the news articles posted by the Huffington Post, CNN and Fox Online. Very few American movies include Native American actors.
The gargantuan drain of wealth from the middle class to the upper 5% during the Bush and Obama Administrations has hurt Native Americans disproportionately. They have no money with which to fight back on this distortion of their heritage. Meanwhile, they have few advocates among the national media and political parties.
Native Americans see vast sums of money being spent to promote a specific religion from the Old World in the public arena, while their own monotheistic beliefs, egalitarian practices, democratic traditions and concern for the environment are being marginalized. Lacking the financial resources to bribe politicians and institutions, all they can do is speak up, and hope that others are listening.
