This weekend's Native American Heritage Pow-Wow in Lima, Ohio is a family-friendly, educational event that will give visitors a chance to explore and learn more about the Native American culture while being thoroughly entertained. It is approximately a 2 hour, 50 minute drive from Cleveland.
The Honoring Our Native Heritage Pow-Wow Taking place on Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17 at the UAW Hall in Lima, the 4th annual pow-wow brings Native American Tribal members, dancers and Native American educators and scholars from all over the United States and Canada to provide a "hands-on" experience in Native culture (including ways of dance and dress) while celebrating the unique history and contributions of Native Americans.
A highlight of the event will be the Grand Entrance with Native American dancers in full regalia at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday and at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Other entertainment includes performances by Native American flutist Bud Eagle Wolf (at 12:30 p.m. both days) and singing and drum circles hosted by Sky Hawk and Blue Heron.
Drum circle musicians and drummers are by invitation only but all dancers are welcome. Another featured performer will be Hoop Dance Peter Chiquito.
Visitors will be able to enjoy Native American food and arts & crafts with a chance to purchase Native American items like jewelry, dream catchers, furs and hides and beads and beadwork.
Doors open at noon both Saturday and Sunday with the Grand Entry and dancing beginning at 1 p.m. Hours for Saturday are 1 p.m. - 10 p.m. and Sunday hours are 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors (62+) and children (5-12). Admission for children under 5 is free.
