If you have followed the gracious donations by our Native American artists to the people of Japan, you have noticed some very quality pieces going for reasonable prices on eBay. Native American Artists for Japan (NAAJ) was founded by three Native American artists who were so moved by the plight of the Japanese people after the earthquake and tsunami, they just had to do something. They held a long series of Ebay auctions of donated art and jewelry to raise money for disaster relief over the summer.
According to NAAJ the funds donated to the Red Cross Japanese Relief effort has topped $33,723. Ray Yazzie's ring plus all of the last run items should take NAAJ over the $50,000.00 mark. His ring will be photographed soon and included with the auction.
Today, Ray Yazzie, one of the NAAJ founding members made this statement:
Hello My Friends,
We are coming to an end to our fundraising for the victims who were affected by the Tsunami in Japan last March. I am amazed at the response from the artists who donated to help. I appreciate Darryl and Lyndon for not hesitating to help, giving hours of labor of friendship which I will never forget, Thank You.
And John, Suki, Elizabeth, John Nez for paving the way through the internet to keep in touch with all the process while the fundraising reach the peaks, I am happy that I have friends there lending hands and minds when it was needed, Thank you very much. The pouring out of Art that we received from the Artists just blew me away, Thank you very much, we couldn't have done this without you.
May God bless all of you for your generosity. I am still working on my donation, I have an offer of $12,000.00 but hope it will bring more than that. My jewelry items are rare to find and take much time to complete.
I am hoping you will understand. I will make sure it will be announced here and on NAAJ website when it is finished. Darryl will post the second-to-the-last Ebay run TONIGHT! Bid my friends, God Bless you and Happy Holidays. Raymond Yazzie
Today, Darry Dean Begay, another founding member of NAAJ debuted his pendant titled "Sending Blessings." The Japanese Flag is in the background and the Cornstalk with humming birds are the blessings from the Native Peoples. This pendant is pictured in this article. This will be in the auction this evening.
