Nationwide Series driver Michael Annett was arrested on Sunday morning in Mooresville, N.C., and charged with driving while intoxicated, texting while drving, failure to reduce speed and resisting an officer.
Annett formerly competed in the Nationwdie Series for Germain Racing and is now under contract to drive in he series for Rusty Wallace Racing. Rusty Wallace Racing released a statement following the incident.
"Rusty Wallace Racing does not condone, nor tolerate, substance abuse by any of its employees," the statements said. "In line with this, RWR is currently working with Michael to develop a package of sanctions which will address this issue."
According to team owner Rusty Wallace, Annett will still be in the team's No. 62 car in the Drive4COPD 300 Nationwide Series race at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 19. Wallace did say, though, that there will be team-sanctioned penalties for Annett's actions.
"Among these will be successful completion of a comprehensive alchohol awareness program, a zero tolerance policy towards alcohol use, a year-long community service program and additional internal sanctions," the RWR statement said.
While at Germain Racing in 2009 and 2010, Annett posted six top-10 finishes. He also has finishes of 10th and 13th in the season-ending points standings the last couple of years. In 2011, he will replace Brendan Gaughan in RWR's No. 62 car, as Gaughan returns to competition in the Camping World Truck Series.
