Nationwide clinical research weight loss study is seeking participants

If you have ever been hesitant to participate in a clinical trial, then worry no more. Yes, there are trials where drugs are in the early stages of testing, but this weight loss study does not involve drugs. You do need to be between the ages of 18 and 70, a Type 2 diabetic, overweight, not taking any medication for weight loss, and not have any significant illness or disease.

There are two other requisites, though. As a diabetic, your A1C level has to be at least 7.0. Further, you must remain in the area where the study is being conducted for one entire year. This study, in conjunction with the government, involves the very popular international weight loss program, Weight Watchers®. You will receive medical evaluations, blood tests, nutritional sessions with a certified dietician, at no charge to you, and more.

This weight watcher has participated in many clinical trials for various studies. They are fun, and you get all kinds of medical tests for free. Some studies will even pay a small amount to participants. One asthma study that I participated in even had the CBS Evening News film a segment, so I got my two seconds of fame on national television.

For those in the Albuquerque area, you can inquire about participation by calling Lovelace Scientific Resources at 505-348-9700, or visit their website. They are located next to the VA hospital off Gibson, on Ridgecrest. When you call, mention "Clinical Research Weight Loss Study." Everyone there is quite nice to work with.

For those outside Albuquerque, check your local research hospital, or click here to find a list of the locations across the United States that are recruiting people for this study.
