A nationally ranked Wichita State was too much for UTSA men’s tennis as they fell to a 6-1 result on Friday night at the UTSA Tennis Center.

The doubles point was hotly contested, with UTSA’s nationally 33rd ranked combination of Joel Rubio and Tomas Stillman going down 8-3 in a shock loss.

The Roadrunners number two combination of Yannick Junger and Boburjopn Kamilijanov to an 8-4 win to keep the doubles point alive for the final pairing.

That final doubles match was a thriller with the games being traded the match went to a tie-break, which followed much the same pattern until the Shockers pair broke away for a 10-8 win to claim the point.

From there it was all too easy for Wichita State as they cruised through three singles matches, winning in straight sets to claim the encounter at 4-0.

UTSA tried to restore some pride, claiming the first sets of the remaining three matches, unfortunately Rubio and Stillman both ended up losing those matches in three sets.

The bright spot for the Roadrunners was Junger who, in addition to winning the one doubles match, won the sole point for the Roadrunners as he got past Ilija Cuic in straight sets in the last match of the night to salvage some pride for the Roadrunners.
