Bao Bao, the sweet panda cub born in August at the National Zoo, got her first taste of the outdoors on Tuesday. By her side was mom, Mei Xiang, who never let her baby wander too far from her sight. The Washington Post captured a short video on April 1 showing mama and baby enjoying some sun and fresh air together.
Bao Bao did quite well on her first adventure in the outdoor yard. The panda cub first enjoyed some cuddles from her mom, and then it was time to do a little exploring on her own. Of course, Mei Xiang sat close by watching as she munched on some bamboo. After the cub tried her hand at some climbing and rolling around being all cute and sweet, she went back to Mei Xiang’s side to also partake of some bamboo, just like mom.
According to zoo officials, Bao Bao was outside for a couple of hours before she headed back inside to take a nap for a few hours. Being outside is quite exhausting for a 7-month-old cub.
The sweet baby was born last summer as a result of artificial insemination. Her daddy is Tian Tian who also resides at the National Zoo. The pandas are part of the enrichment program to help keep these gorgeous animals from extinction.
