On Friday, National Yoga Recess Day, thousands of kids and teens will be participating in yoga classes in their schools. Yoga Recess is a project of the Yoga Health Foundation, based in Los Angeles. It is an awareness campaign that reaches thousands of children nationwide, bringing mind-body fitness and health to classrooms, after-school programs, community centers and youth organizations. Yoga Recess offers schools a free alternative for bringing health and fitness and the added bonus of mind-body awareness into the classroom, by providing free online resources like instructional videos, lesson plans and more to teachers to use in their classrooms.
Yoga helps kids and teens increase their strength, stamina and flexibility. Yoga is often recommend to teens as stress reducer because it has been scientifically proven that yoga helps students ability to focus and stay on task, improves behavior and self- discipline, helps decrease anxiety and depression, aids weight loss, boosts self-confidence, creativity and communication skills and improves overall health, well-being and mental function.
The Yoga-Recess in Schools national awareness campaign focuses solely on the mind body aspects of yoga and has no religious affiliation or connection.
Teachers, parents, students and yogis can participate by supporting a school or classroom or by supporting the Yoga Recess School Fund.
