Each year, Mother's Day kicks off National Women's Health Week. This week (May 8-14) is to remind women to make good healthy choices and make their own health and fitness a priority. Often, we stay at home moms need reminding that taking good care of ourselves, should be at the top of the list along with the rest of the family. The CDC (Centers for Disease Control) reminds women that taking care of ourselves isn't limited to an annual doctor's visit. Here's some of their recommendations.
- Nutrition-"Start with simple things like less salt, smaller portions, and adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet."
- Exercise-"Adults should get 2½ hours of moderate physical activity each week. Seems too overwhelming? Try breaking it up into smaller chunks of time during the day, and spreading it throughout the week."
- Reducing Stress-"Manage stress at home, work, and school by taking steps to identify what may be stressing you and how to reduce or cope with it."
- Sleep-"Not only does it feel great to get a good night's sleep, it can also reduce the chance of chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, and depression. Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep per night."
Stay at home moms sometimes crave time for themselves so don't forget to fit that into your schedule along with a healthy diet and weekly physical activity. Here are some ways to fit that into your schedule right here in Etowah County!
