National Wear Red Day – Wear red and support women's heart health

Today is National Wear Red Day, a day dedicated to raising awareness about heart disease in women.  The annual event is held on the first Friday in February.

In 2002, the Heart Truth campaign, sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), launched the national symbol for women and heart disease awareness, the Red Dress. As part of American Heart Month, National Wear Red Day along with the Red Dress symbol,  serves as an important reminder that heart disease is the number one killer of women regardless of race or ethnicity. .  Risk factors include diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, overweight and smoking.

Supporting the cause is easy – just wear red to work, around town or at home and encourage friends and loved ones to wear red as well.
