This week is National Volunteer Week (April 10-16), a great opportunity to both recognize the great work of volunteers and to get involved in your community! Americans love giving back -- In 2010 alone, more than 63 million Americans volunteered their time which has an estimated dollar value of nearly $169 billion. Highlights for Atlanta include:

  • 1.1 million volunteers
  • 27.6% of residents volunteer - ranking us 24th within the 51 large cities
  • 39.5 hours per resident - ranking us 14th within the 51 large cities
  • $3.4 billion of service contributed

From mentoring at-risk youth and caring for older Americans to supporting our veterans and military families and rebuilding after disasters, volunteers are the lifeblood of our communities.
