Being a volunteer is a position that can be under-rated. Being a volunteer is 100% of giving of yourself to others. It is an unselfish act of helping others and donating your time, energy and support to a cause. Whether you are a volunteer at a hospital, library, nursing home or at a school, your time and dedication is appreciated.
In Florida we have Volunteer Florida. April is Florida Volunteer Month here as it is throughout our country. Florida NEEDS YOU to volunteer in your local community. What does this mean? GET INVOLVED!! Volunteer service has never been more important than it is today. Mentor a child, feed the homeless, clean up a park or beautify green spaces-there are so many ways to make a difference in the lives of others! And what you will receive in return is priceless. (Watch video below)
This is also a perfect time to learn about expanding your volunteerism in your community. VolunteerSpot was founded in 2009 and has successfully launched and assisted many new groups of volunteers. Learn more about how you can help your own community, visit www.VolunteerSpot.com.
Are you a parent? Be an example to your kids. With today's busy schedules it is difficult to find extra time for such things as volunteering. However have you ever considered doing it with your teens? Find a local food bank or soup kitchen. Churches are usually always in need of volunteers. Ask your child's school if there are any volunteer opportunities. Even if you can only spare a day a month, it is about giving back and also spending quality time with your teens.
Make it your mission during National Volunteer Week to not only appreciate those people that give of themselves, but start to be one of those people!
