November is National Vegan Month. There are so many reasons why one would choose this path for themselves. For some, it is out of consideration for the animals being tortured and eventually killed, for others it is a health concern. Yet, no one is talking about the food shortage part of the vegan cause.
One of the most compelling arguments to convince others to try a vegan diet is there are one billion starving people in the world. Child malnutrition is one of the number one killers in third world countries. Up to six million innocent children die each year from not having food to eat. Yet, there are 1.5 billion people who are overweight and/or obese who clearly has too much to eat.
In a world that we seem to have it all, sometimes we have to step back and realize more is not more sometimes. Sometimes it is better to not eat so much or choose the right foods. Veganism comes in here. You choose the right foods that are kind to the beautiful world and animals that inhabit it. By eating less or the correct foods, we are able to feed more people that are in desperate need to eat.
As it is National Vegan Month, this is the perfect time to dedicate time to eating vegan. Do it for the kids who wished they had food. Do it for the cattle that are mistreated. Do it for yourself, so you can say, “I am vegan because I care”
