So, today is National T.V. Dinner Day. Ooooooo Blatch! Just read the label and see if you want to put any of that crap in your mouth. Way too many calories for the little bit of food. Oodles of fat and high fructose corn syrup and WAY to much sodium.
Sure, I know. Everyone’s over the top busy these days, but there are many quick and easy, tasty, healthy and accessible alternatives to the T.V. Dinner rational.
First, I’m afraid I absolutely do not understand this concept of always having to have a “hot” meal. I’d much rather have a good cheese, baguette and fruit for my dinner than a T.V. dinner. What could make for a better meal than a chunk of a well aged Cheddar, a crisp, juicy apple and a bit of good whole grain bread – Brie, grapes or betties and baguette – a good blue cheese, a perfectly ripened pear and good bread?
Gotta have meat? Stop at the deli counter and pick up a few slices of cold roast beef, turkey or pastrami, and some deli salad. The selections of salads available these days are staggering. Hell, even one of those rotisserie chickens available at almost all groceries stores these days are so much better than a T.V. dinner; and unless you have a large family, you have food for several days. Add salad, bread and fresh fruit for dessert and you have a superb meal.
The only appropriate place for a T.V. Dinner is in a Retro museum.
